Memorial Day BBQ Ideas

With Memorial Day on the horizon, all eyes are looking outside for great grilling adventures and ice cold beverages. If you want to get a jump start on your Memorial Day weekend, we've got a fool proof recipe for baby back ribs where the meat just falls off the bone.

Starting the night before your big BBQ, take your rack of ribs and place them on a baking sheet. Apply a dry rub of salt, ceyenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Stick those in the oven on low heat (about 250 degrees) for 3-4 hours. Remove from oven and ice down the ribs overnight.

The next day, fire up your grill (if you have a propane grill, heat it to 300 degrees) and get out a big bowl of your favorite BBQ sauce (homemade or from a bottle – we won't tell your secrets). Now that you've done all the prep work for the main course, let's focus on the other important part of the Memorial Day BBQ – the drinks!

Go out and get some fresh strawberries, mint leaves, lemonade, and vodka (you can use hard lemonade instead of regular lemonade and vodka, if you want). In a blender, put in the entire container of strawberries and mix until smooth. Now pour that in a large pitcher and mix it with your lemonade and vodka (or just hard lemonade). Pour into glasses and garnish with a few mint leaves for a refreshing cocktail for a hot Memorial Day get together.

Now that everyone has their drinks, we can get back to the matter at hand – meat and fire!

Put the baby back ribs on the grill for about 2 hours (1 hour for each side) while continuing to baste them with barbeque sauce. When they are done, you will have succulent, spicy ribs that just melt in your mouth, and you will receive all the praise from your guests. Serve with potato salad. Feeds about 4- 8 people.
